This is the index room of the archive. Every list Rust Server History keeps is set out below, grouped as the quick links are: play style, team size, gather rate, region. Each entry records how many servers it holds now and names the three busiest, read from the live count. The three names change with the clock, so treat them as the list's present weather, not its permanent plaque.

How to read this page

A list's count is a live figure: it falls when servers go quiet or close and rises when new ones appear in the public server list. The three entries printed under each list are simply its highest current populations, refreshed every five minutes.

Ranking inside a list comes from stored population history, not from one busy hour. That is why a server with a steady daily curve can sit above one that spikes only after a wipe. No position is bought. If a placement is ever sold it will be labelled sponsored and kept out of the order.

Where the figures come from

Counts and populations are read from the public server list. Wipe dates come from each server's own log. Ranks are computed from the stored hourly record. If a server's staff publish a clash with the log, the entry states both.

Before you choose

Open a server page and read its record: wipes dated, population over time, rank movement. The full server browser adds filters for region, type and wipe schedule. The next force wipe tells you when the shared calendar turns; joining just after it is the cleanest start a record can show you.

Questions

What visitors ask most, answered from the archive.

How do I tell which of these lists a server belongs to?

A server appears on every list whose rule it meets, so it can hold entries on several at once. Its own page shows the record once: wipes, populations and rank. Use the browser if you want to filter by more than one rule at a time.

What do the three busiest names on each list mean?

They are the three entries with the highest live population in that list at the moment you read the page. The live count refreshes every five minutes, so the names can change within an hour. They are not a permanent order and are not the same as the list's rank column.

Does a server's position here ever change hands for payment?

No position on any list is bought. Order is set by stored population history, and live figures decide the three busiest names. If the archive ever sells a placement it will be marked sponsored and held outside the ranking.

Why is the count next to a list lower than the number of servers I know about?

A list only holds servers whose published settings, tags or name match its rule. A server that has never stated a team limit will not appear on the solo, duo or trio lists. Servers that are offline at the moment of the count are also left out of it.
