Rank is players over the last seven days. A big server showing offline while the rest are up is that server restarting or wiping, not Rust being down.
This page answers the question with a live reading, not a guess. Every five minutes we read the public server list and compare it with the stored population history for this hour of the day. The result is at the top: Rust servers are up, with 11,787 servers online and 84,925 players connected at the last check.
The numbers behind the verdict
The comparison uses two figures: the live count now, and the median count for the same hour over the past 48 hours from our records. At 85% of the median or above, we call servers up. Between 50% and 85%, the reading is lower than usual and we say so. Below half, the verdict is an outage. The timestamp under the verdict shows when the list was last read; if it is more than 25 minutes old, the page marks the reading as behind rather than inventing a figure.
48-hour charts
The charts below plot the live count against the stored median for each hour. They are updated with each reading. Use them to see whether a dip is normal for this time of day or a genuine fall.
Are the biggest servers up?
We also track the largest servers by current population. Their individual status is drawn from the same five-minute reading, and each server page carries its own log of wipes and population changes. For the full list, see the Rust server list.
When your game shows no servers
If the verdict here is up but your server browser is empty, the problem is between you and Steam. Restart Steam and Rust. Clear any region or tag filters. Check Steam's own status. On force wipe day, update the game first — see the force wipe schedule. A single missing server is likely restarting or wiping; its page shows when it was last seen.

Questions
What visitors ask most, answered from the archive.
Are Rust servers down right now?
The live verdict at the top of this page gives the answer. It is based on a reading of the full server list every five minutes, compared with stored medians for this hour from the past 48 hours. The figures 11,787 and 84,925 show the scale of the reading.
Why does my game show no servers when this page says they are up?
Then the issue is on your side or with Steam, not with Rust. Restart Steam, clear your server browser filters, check Steam's status page, and on force wipe day update Rust before trying again. A single missing server is likely down or restarting; its own page shows when it was last seen.
How fresh is this page?
The timestamp under the verdict shows when the server list was last read, normally within six minutes. If the reading is more than 25 minutes old, the page says so plainly rather than showing a stale figure as current. The 48-hour charts use the same stored history.
