About the archive

Rust Server History keeps a dated record of every public Rust server.

The in-game server browser shows you a server as it is today. It does not show you what that server was last month, when it last wiped, or whether its population holds through the week. This site keeps that record instead.

The source is Steam's public Rust server list, read every five minutes: server names, player counts, queues and the tags each server publishes. Where a server answers direct queries, the log also holds map seed, frame rate and entity count. A server that does not answer shows only what Steam publishes. From these sources each server entry carries its wipes, population changes and ranks, dated.

Ranks come from live player counts over the past week, taken hour by hour. A server that holds a population every day ranks above one that fills for a single evening after a wipe. Lists are ordered by player count, never by payment. No server is called the best without its ranking data attached.

Rust Server History is independent and built by Rust players. It is not affiliated with Facepunch Studios, and nothing here is endorsed by them. Server names, descriptions and images belong to the people who run those servers.

If an entry for your server looks wrong, the cause is usually a setting on the server itself; corrections appear within about five minutes of the next read. If it still looks wrong, write to hello@rustserverhistory.org. You can browse the full server list, check the live player count or read the force wipe schedule.

Questions

What visitors ask most, answered from the archive.

Where does the data come from?

Every figure is taken from Steam's public Rust server list, refreshed every five minutes, plus direct queries to servers that answer them. The site stores each read as a dated entry, so populations, wipes and ranks build a history rather than a single snapshot. No figure is estimated or invented.

How are servers ranked?

Ranks are based on live player counts over the past week, hour by hour. A server with a steady population across the week ranks above one that peaks for a single evening. Lists are ordered by player count, never by payment.

Is Rust Server History affiliated with Facepunch?

No. Rust Server History is an independent archive built by Rust players. It is not affiliated with Facepunch Studios and nothing here is endorsed by them. Server names, descriptions and images remain the property of the people who run those servers.
